 Communication magazine cover(NAS)

‘A change is as good as a rest’ – a phrase clearly not penned by the parent of a child with autism! Change is not something enjoyed by many people with autism and so arranging a family holiday to include that person can seem a daunting prospect. This can seem especially hard when you are trying to take into account the needs of neurotypical brothers and sisters and get some kind of break in for yourself.

The lead feature in the Summer 2009 issue of our NAS members’ magazine, Communication (out on 29 May), includes an extended feature on holidays, with tips, advice and recommendations from people with autism, their parents and carers, and NAS staff and members – all of whom have developed a ‘Yes, we can!’ attitude to getting away from it all.

In the same issue…

Transition from primary school to secondary school is a big move for many children with autism. We’ve got advice on planning and managing that change.

We also look at what has been achieved so far on the journey towards Britain’s first autism law, the Autism Bill, and we hear from a mother, Rachel Littlewood, who looks back at her life with her 43-year-old daughter, Lucy, who has autism. There’s also advice on sleep and how to get it! Plus news, reviews and comment.

Communication is received by all NAS members every three months. Join the NAS now to get your copy of the summer edition, and future issues.
