Nadia Bloom
Nadia Bloom headed to hospital after being rescued from woods
Â
‘Let’s give the glory to God,’ father Jeff Bloom said.

WINTER SPRINGS – Nadia Bloom is being whisked to the hospital this afternoon after being rescued from the woods where she spent four days in alligator-infested woods and swampland near Lake Jesup.
Rescuers and other law-enforcement officials carried the 11-year-old girl out of the woods in a black hammock.
Nadia was covered in bug bites, her feet are waterlogged and she is dehydrated, officials said.
The girl is in an ambulance and is on her way to South Seminole Hospital in Longwood. Family and friends said her rescue was miraculous.
“It all came so fast and it just shows the compassion of the human spirit. It should give everybody encouragement,” Nadia’s father Jeff Bloom told reporters after rescue crews lifted her into an ambulance.
When asked how he felt, Jeff Bloom said: “I can’t even describe it. Let’s give the glory to God.”
Nadia’s mother Tanya thanked everyone, from rescue crews to strangers, for their efforts and prayers.
“They have been so wonderful,” she said.
The Winter Springs girl, who has been missing since Friday, was found this morning by James King, a member of Metro Church, where the Blooms worship.
King is a hero, said Dan Holland, senior pastor at Metro Church in Winter Springs.
“[King] woke up this morning and told the pastor, ‘I walked straight through the swamp and there she was,'” Holland said.
Officials are taking King to the Police Department to fill out a sworn statement.
Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle said Nadia was found in Zone 13 — an area that had not been cleared by the search teams.
As word spread that Nadia has been found, the crowd gathering outside Metro Church increased.
At one point, about three dozen church members broke into song in the driveway in front of the church, singing “Shout Halleluiah.”
“James said he was praying. He said he was praying in tongues, he was praying in spirits and he went right to her,” Sandra Green said. Green is the wife of Metro Church pastor Randy Green.
Patricia Guobadia, a spokeswoman for the Blooms, said “our prayers have been answered…it’s just celebration today.” Guobadia and others had organized a vigil Saturday at Lawton Elementary School where Nadia attends.
“On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of Lawton Elementary, we are relieved and happy to hear that Nadia Bloom has been found,” a statement attributed to Ricky Carver, principal of Lawton Elementary, said. “We look forward to her return to her family and friends, and share their joy at her safe recovery.”
Investigators think she had been in the vast conservation area around Lake Jesup. That lake is known as one of the most alligator-infested bodies of water in Central Florida.
Other children have been found several days after getting lost in similar dangerous environmentsIn May 2009, a 3-year-old was found alive after being lost for two days in Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri. A massive search began after the boy had wandered away from home.
A 4-year-old girl was found crying in the woods in March more than 24 hours after she went missing near the California/Oregan border. She had spent the night in the woods where temperatures dipped into the 30s.
On Monday, authorities had scoured swampy woods, lakes and the gated Seminole County neighborhood of Barrington Estates for any clue to Nadia’s whereabouts.
Despite the lack of leads, Brunelle had always maintained: “I’m not willing to give up on her.”
The fifth-grader had last been seen riding her bike in her neighborhood. Her sister, Sophia, had told police Nadia could be carrying a video camera in her backpack with the intent of making a nature video.
Investigators had said a book about a girl who loved the outdoors may have inspired Nadia to seek her own adventure in woods before she vanished.
Nadia, who has an autism-related disorder called Asperger’s Syndrome, read a book called “Lanie,” the story of a 10-year-old girl who explores her backyard and documents what she sees.
“We haven’t seen any common link with [the book and] what we are investigating,” Brunelle said Monday. “The only thing we can figure with the book is that they are both nature lovers.”
Rescue groups had focused their search in areas around Lake Jesup, one of Central Florida’s most alligator-infested bodies of water.
Her mother, Tanya Bloom, had told officers Nadia had left her bicycle upright on its kick-stand, her helmet hanging on the handlebars, in the cul-de-sac of Wrentham Court. That’s less than a third of a mile from the family’s home in the 1400 block of Wescott Loop.

Lost Girl’s Ordeal Described
Nadia Bloom was calm when a rescuer found her in a swamp.

ORLANDO | An 11-year-old girl lost for four days deep in a swamp spent the time watching animals and praying until a former member of her church rescued her, her mother said Wednesday.
Nadia Bloom had bug bites and bruises and was dehydrated when she was found Tuesday, but was otherwise OK.
“This is a positive happy ending story.” Nadia’s mother, Tanya Bloom, said at a press conference. “It’s a story of hope that we want to share that with other families.”
While Nadia’s parents spoke with reporters in Florida, her rescuer, James King, was in New York making the rounds of television shows.
King said he knows Nadia’s family because he used to attend the same church they did. He joined other former church members who were searching for Nadia on Tuesday.
Tanya Bloom said her husband, Jeff, and their 8-year-old daughter were away on a camping trip last week when Nadia asked to go for a short bike ride. When she didn’t return about 20 minutes later, her mother got worried and started searching the neighborhood. Eventually, she called police.
Bloom said she and her husband thought Nadia might have wandered farther into the woods than authorities expected because she is an “out-of-the-box thinker.” The fifth-grader has Asperger’s syndrome, a type of autism-related disorder.
Tanya Bloom said her daughter may have gone in because she wanted to take pictures and then gotten lost. Nadia had her camera with her in the woods, but her parents turned it over to police and haven’t been able to look at the pictures yet.
“We’re looking forward to the whole story,” said Jeff Bloom, when asked if he looked forward to seeing the photos. “It’s got to be awesome.”
