On Wednesday 8 September 2010, UK Home Secretary Theresa May announced that there would be a review of the US-UK extradition agreement.
The extradition agreement is being used by the US Government to try to extradite Gary McKinnon. The review announced by Theresa May will be led by a small panel of experts who will decide if the treaty that governs extradition is unbalanced. The panel will be established before next summer.
The result of this review is not certain, nor is it certain that any result of the review will directly affect Gary’s case. The NAS and other organisations have been working closely with Gary and his mother, Janis Sharp, to halt the extradition. We will continue to push for him to remain in the UK.
To show your support for Gary and for an extradition process that reflects the needs of people on the autism spectrum, please send a message of support.
