Keeping your mind in the job search game.

Maybe you’re unemployed and concerned about the end of your unemployment benefits. Perhaps you just graduated and now that the classes, exams, and papers are done there’s nothing between you and the job search. You know you need to move forward, and you promise yourself you’ll get started just as soon as this episode of “Law and Order” is over.
- Do you find yourself worrying about your job search, but not actually doing anything?
- Do you think a lot about what you “should” do?
- Are you comparing yourself to others to see if you’re doing better or worse than they are?
- Are you sometimes depressed when you perceive others as doing better?
- Are you overwhelmed?
If so, you’re not alone. Some recent articles have indicated that many people seeking jobs admit that they’re not putting a full effort into the process. One of the hardest battles you’ll face in your job search will be the battle with yourself. What some people don’t understand is that the job search is a job— it requires the same 40 hour-per-week effort that working does. But it can be hard to get started, not to mention sustain a long search, when your mind starts to interfere with the process.
