Â
In February 2010 the Government will publish its plan for improving the lives of adults with autism. We urgently need you to take action to make sure it is good enough.
Last year when we achieved the Autism Act 2009, it placed a new legal obligation on the Government to publish an Adult Autism Strategy that delivers real change.Â
During a public consultation last year, thousands of people told the Government what is needed to improve the lives of people affected by autism.
The National Autistic Society strongly believes that the establishment of specialist autism teams in every local area is crucial if the Government is going to meet the needs of adults with autism. The teams would be responsible for providing a range of services and measures aimed at improving access to support for adults with autism. These services would include diagnosis, building capacity to support adults with autism through training, and providing ‘low-level’ services such as social skills training.
Â
We also want to see Autism Planning Groups established around the country to identify gaps in provision for adults with autism and plan and commission services to meet everyone’s needs.
Â
This is our last chance to make sure that the Government gets the strategy right. Please take action now.
